Market Information

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was recently quoted as saying ‘Priority is education, second priority is education and third priority is education’. His remarks reflect the government’s continued commitment towards spending 17% of the federal budget towards education (UK = 11%) and introducing ‘Education 2020’, a strategy designed to generate significant qualitative improvement in the education system over a series of five-year plans.

Education in the UAE is a rapidly growing market and is predicted to grow from a $4.4 billion market in 2018 to a $7.1 billion market in 2023. This has led to a competitive education system of which 90% of the schools in Dubai are privately run applying both modern teaching practices and digital approaches towards educating students.

Opportunities are widespread but more so in the early-years sector which has shown a growth rate of 18% each year since 2010. Currently there are 263 registered early learning centres in Dubai but with demographic trends showing students under the age of 5 comprising of 80% of the total children population in Dubai, this suggests that up to 74,500 places and up to 50 new private schools will be required by 2020.
